In the scenic neighborhoods of the Netherlands, a shift towards energy sustainability is gaining momentum among homeowners who value both eco-friendliness and cost efficiency. A prime example of this is the integration of BasenGreen’s state-of-the-art battery storage systems with Victron hybrid inverters, a setup increasingly seen in Dutch residences. A Dutch Homeowner’s Journey to Energy Efficiency Homeowner Johan in Utrecht recently upgraded his energy system; Johan replaced his old SolarEdge grid-tie inverters with a more powerful Victron hybrid inverter system, which is also capable of storing energy. His system now consists of three 5 kW Victron inverters and a 30 kWh energy storage solution (consisting of five sets of BasenGreen’s BR-RM-LV 6 kWh batteries). All of this is intelligently controlled by Victron’s advanced software. His existing SolarEdge solar inverters are connected to the Victron system via ModBus for seamless integration and increased efficiency in solar production. Realizing the potential for increased efficiency, Johan added four more panels to charge the batteries directly through Victron’s SmartSolar solar inverters. In this way, the ideal synergy between the two solar inverters is realized and efficiently managed by the Victron system. Johan’s main goal is to realize “peak shaving”. Peak shaving is the reduction of electricity consumption during peak hours when energy costs are highest. The hybrid system manages this automatically by storing solar energy generated during off-peak hours in BasenGreen batteries, which are then used during peak demand hours, thus reducing consumption from the grid when electricity is most expensive. Here’s a simplified breakdown of Johan’s energy savings: Peak electricity rate:€0.30 per kWh Off-peak electricity rate:€0.15 per kWh Daily peak usage reduced by battery system:10 kWh 365 days of operation By utilizing stored energy during peak times instead of drawing from the grid, Johan avoids the higher peak rate: Savings per day:(€0.30 – €0.15) * 10 kWh = €1.50 Annual savings:€1.50 * 365 = €547.50 from peak shaving alone. Additionally, by increasing his self-consumption of solar energy (not selling it back to the grid but using it directly), he maximizes the use of his solar installation, which adds significantly to his savings, cumulatively exceeding €1000 annually.…
